In 2009, the Government of Ontario passed legislation known as the Toxics Reduction Act, 2009. The purpose of this legislation was “to prevent pollution and protect human health and the environment by reducing the use and creation of toxic substances.”(Section 1(a) of the Toxics Reduction Act, 2009).
Suncor Energy is committed to sustainability and to developing energy in a way that enhances social and economic benefits, while striving to minimize the environmental impact associated with development.
Consistent with our ongoing commitment to transparency, and to meeting the regulatory requirements of Ontario’s Toxics Reduction Act, an annual report is provided to the public and to our employees for each of the three operating facilities we have in Ontario: the Sarnia Refinery (Sarnia, Ont.); the Petro-Canada Lubricants plant (Mississauga, Ont.); and the St. Clair Ethanol Plant (St. Clair, Ont.).
