Leadership Grant

Suncor will provide support to recognize your involvement on a not-for-profit board of directors or equivalent governing body for a not-for-profit or a registered charitable organization.

Financial support is available for fundraising events that you are expected to attend as a board member and which are organized by the organization on whose board you sit. Despite the current low-price crude environment, Suncor remains committed to the SunCares employee grants program, including leadership grants, as a key opportunity to continue to support employee community involvement. All eligible applications will continue to be honoured.

Examples include:

  • Table purchase at gala dinners/events
  • Any fundraising event/activity hosted by the not-for-profit you volunteer with as a board member.

Grant guidelines:

  • Maximum $1,000 (applicable currency) per year per employee to one organization.
  • Contributions to any one organization through the Leadership Grant will be capped at $3,000 per year.
  • Grant will be paid in the form of a cheque for a table purchase or a similar fundraising event.
  • Written verification of the employee’s board membership must be received from the organization prior to approval. Attach to the application or send via email.

Eligible organizations include:

  • Registered not-for-profit societies or federally registered charitable organizations that meet a community need (i.e., a Canadian registered charitable organization, an organization with 501 (c) (3) status in the United States, an organization that is registered with the charity commission of England and Wales or an equivalent international regulatory body).
  • In the case of non-profit activities that are not registered, such as little league teams, funding must be channelled through a local community association. The community association should be registered as a non-profit society and it is the responsibility of the applicant to provide this registration number. In situations where additional clarity is needed regarding the status of a non-profit group or community association, Suncor and the Suncor Energy Foundation reserve the right to verify its registration number.

The Leadership Grant is not eligible for:

  • Religious or cultural initiatives that are for the benefit of the membership or faith community only (for example, member of church board or program serving a single faith community).
  • Committee or cabinet roles or roles in a similar organizing capacity.

What to expect in making an application:

  • After the application is received it will be reviewed
  • You may be asked for more information to clarify your role or request
  • If the grant request is approved, payment will be made by cheque or direct deposit, directly to the organization you are supporting
  • This process may take upwards of six weeks
