Volunteering Grant

In recognition of employees and retirees who volunteer in our communities, Suncor will award one grant per year per employee to eligible organizations in the amount of $750 (applicable currency). Despite the current low-price crude environment, Suncor remains committed to the SunCares employee grants program, including volunteering grants, as a key opportunity to continue to support employee community involvement. All eligible applications will continue to be honoured.

Examples include:

  • Coaching little league teams
  • Instructing youth sports
  • Serving meals to homeless people
  • Answering phones at a distress centre
  • Mentoring students
  • Stocking shelves at the food bank
  • Volunteering in official capacities with non-profit organizations and community associations, school parent associations and similar organizations

You must be:

  • An active volunteer, giving a minimum of 48 hours per year to the organization.

Grant guidelines:

  • You can apply for one grant per year to benefit an organization that resides in your country.
  • You must have completed the minimum 48 hours of volunteering prior to applying for the grant.
  • Contributions to any one organization will be capped at $20,000 (applicable currency) in a single year. In situations where more clarity is needed about the volunteer role, Suncor and the Suncor Energy Foundation reserve the right to request a letter from the non-profit organization confirming your role.

Eligible organizations include:

  • Registered not-for-profit societies or federally registered charitable organizations that meet a community need (i.e., a Canadian registered charitable organization, or an organization with 501 (c) (3) status in the United States, an organization that is registered with the charity commission of England and Wales or an equivalent international regulatory body).
  • In the case of non-profit activities that are not registered, such as little league teams, funding must be channelled through a local community association. The community association should be registered as a non-profit society and it is the responsibility of the applicant to provide this registration number. In situations where additional clarity is needed regarding the status of a non-profit group or community association, Suncor and the Suncor Energy Foundation reserve the right to verify its registration number.

The Volunteering Grant is not eligible for:

  • Employee and retiree leisure pursuits, including adult sport and recreational teams (for example, adult hockey, tennis, badminton, swimming, etc.) for which the volunteer activity does not involve helping others
  • Activities considered an extension of your role as a parent (for example, driving team members to games, cleaning team jerseys) unless it is an official volunteer position within an established non-profit organization
