The Suncor Energy Foundation is a private, non-profit, charitable foundation established by Suncor Energy Inc. in 1998 to receive Suncor’s contributions and support registered Canadian charitable organizations. The Foundation complements other forms of community investments by Suncor, such as product or in-kind contributions, sponsorships, and employee giving and volunteer efforts.
Funded entirely by Suncor, the Foundation seeks unique opportunities to support community-based initiatives that enhance the quality of life in Suncor’s key operating communities and to add value through effective collaborations.
The Foundation invests in initiatives that meet the requirements as registered charitable organizations for Canadian tax purposes and align with the company’s funding priorities.
The Foundation’s funding priorities, which mirror those of the company, include:
- Cultivating Community Leaders
- Building Skills and Knowledge
- Inspiring Innovation
- Engaging Citizens
- Collaborating for Our Energy Future
Since its inception in 1998, the Foundation has invested more than $84 million in charitable organizations across Canada.
The Foundation is governed by a Board of Directors that reviews all major investments greater than $50,000. The Board meets four times a year.
