Suncor continues to voluntarily report to stakeholders on our environmental and social performance, above and beyond regulatory requirements.
The Jantzi Social Index, an independent investment research firm that evaluates and monitors the social and environmental performance of approximately 300 companies and income trusts, has consistently recognized Suncor for its performance.
Suncor is also listed on the FTSE4Good Index, a global benchmarking tool used by investors and researchers to measure the performance of environmentally and socially responsible companies.
Suncor has been named to the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) for 16 consecutive years. The DJSI tracks the financial performance of leading sustainability-driven companies worldwide, based on economic, social and environmental criteria.
The Chartered Professional Accountants Canada, formerly the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants, has given Suncor's Report on sustainability its Award of Excellence in sustainability reporting from 2009-2014. In 2013 and 2014, Suncor was also recognized with the Award of Excellence in the Oil and Gas sector for Corporate Reporting for the third time.
Suncor is also a member company of the CDP, an independent not-for-profit organization that records corporate climate change information. Suncor has reported to the CDP since 2004, using it as an opportunity to analyze our greenhouse gas emissions and energy use in a more structured manner and benchmark against a peer group. Measuring and reporting our emissions is part of our seven-point action plan on climate change. The CDP also provides visibility and accountability to stakeholders. Suncor has been named a top reporter by the CDP in many years and most recently for its 2012 data submission. Suncor has also reported to CDP's Water program since 2010.
The Global Compact 100, released in partnership with research firm Sustainalytics, is composed of a representative group of Global Compact companies that have been selected based on their adherence to the Global Compact’s ten principles as well as evidence of executive leadership commitment and consistent base-line profitability.
In 2015, Corporate Knights magazine listed Suncor in its ranking of the world’s 100 most sustainability-focused companies. The Global 100 highlights corporations that have been proactive in managing environmental, social and governance issues.
In 2014, Suncor applied to the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business for Progressive Aboriginal Relations (PAR) certification. Suncor achieved a Silver level certification. PAR is a certification program that rates corporate Aboriginal relations performance at a Bronze, Silver or Gold level.

For five years in a row, from 2010 to 2015, Suncor was named to the Maclean's/Jantzi-Sustainalytics list of the Top 50 Socially Responsible Corporations in Canada. This listing recognizes leading environmental, social and governance practices of Canada's most prominent corporations.
In 2016, Suncor received a Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM) Award for exceeding a Level A ranking in their results across all six protocols of TSM, including: Aboriginal and community outreach, crisis management, safety and health, tailings management, biodiversity conservation management, and energy use and greenhouse gas emissions management.
