Dennis Houston, Suncor Energy Board of Directors

Mr. Houston is the former executive vice president for ExxonMobil Refining & Supply Company, a position he held from 1999 to 2010. His extensive experience in the downstream sector of the oil and gas industry includes roles with responsibility for refinery operations / optimization, crude oil trading and pipeline and marine transportation.

He previously served as vice president, Exxon Supply & Transportation, managing the company’s supply business as well as its international marine transportation operations. He was responsible for the buying and selling of crude oil and product trading, the scheduling of crude oil products from refineries and refinery optimization. He also has international experience in a previous role as chairman & managing director and marketing director for Esso Singapore, which included responsibility for trading and transportation operations including marketing in China and the Indian sub-continent, among other locations.

Mr. Houston has held a variety of previous roles within Exxon with increasing responsibility, including overseeing supply operations for the company’s American operations, the capital budget for the company’s U.S refineries and lubricants business.

He currently serves as a director for Argus Media Limited. Mr. Houston also serves on the Alexander S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation Board, is honorary consul to the Texas Region for the Principality of Liechtenstein and a board member for the American Bureau of Shipping Group of Companies.

Mr. Houston has served on a variety of advisory councils, including an appointment by President George H.W. Bush to the National Infrastructure Advisory Council, the Chemical Sciences Leadership Council at the University of Illinois and the Advisory Council – Center for Energy, Marine Transportation & Public Policy at Columbia University.

Mr. Houston has a bachelor’s degree of science in chemical engineering from the University of Illinois and an honorary doctorate of public administration degree from Massachusetts Maritime Academy.
