It’s National Volunteer Week in Canada, and this year’s theme is the value of one, the power of many, which recognizes the overall impact of simple actions.

Across Suncor, employees have brought this concept to life by going above and beyond for their community, volunteering, and making financial contributions.

For their efforts, each year, five employees are recognized as SunCares Changemakers through a nomination process. Each SunCares Changemaker gets to identify a community organization of their choice to receive a one-time donation of $20,000 from Suncor or the Suncor Energy Foundation.

In its third year, the SunCares Changemakers program brought in many nominations from across Suncor. A member of this year’s selection committee says the team had a tall order in narrowing the field down to just five recipients.

“I can’t remember how many times I said ‘wow’ during the process,” says Erin Harde, Senior Advisor, Employee and Leader Communications at Suncor. “I’m in awe of my co-workers who do so much for others in their community. Their level of commitment and impact is so inspiring and motivating, and truly demonstrates Suncor’s purpose of caring for each other and the earth.”
