Part of running our business responsibly means taking care of the environment that surrounds our operations. That’s why we have a wildlife monitoring program.
The program helps Suncor reduce our impact on wildlife habitats around our operating areas. We also do this to monitor the wildlife we have at our sites, and ensure they are not restricted in movement and are in good health. We’ve been running the wildlife monitoring program in various forms since 2001 and have similar monitoring programs at all of our oil sands operations.
In 2019 we had 306 remote cameras deployed throughout the Wood Buffalo region. Here are some of our favourite captures of furry friends trekking around:
