Team Canada's biggest fans get their own at-home cheer section

Since 2010, Petro-Canada has championed athletes’ biggest fans – their families and friends – through our Canadian Athlete Family Program. 

When family and friends can attend the Olympic and Paralympic Games in person, Petro-Canada, a Suncor business, provides two complimentary tickets to the Games for athletes’ loved ones. However, with international spectators unable to attend the Beijing 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, we made sure their biggest fans had everything they needed to cheer on their favourite athletes from home.

When the pandemic first prevented international spectators from travelling to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Petro-Canada launched the #FuelFromHome campaign, which provides cheer packages to athletes’ loved ones. 

These packages have everything Team Canada’s biggest fans need for their at-home cheering section, including glassware, so families can “cheers” to their favourite athlete, noisy sticks and clappers, a foam finger, coasters, a Petro-Canada toque and our limited-edition 2022 collector pin so they can be the ultimate fan regardless of time zone.

“Team Canada’s athletes put years of hard work, training and dedication into their journey to the Games and we know that their friends and families are their biggest fans from day one,” says Nicole Fisher, Manager, Petro-Canada Brand and Sponsorship. “While it’s heartbreaking that Team Canada’s number one fans cannot be there to cheer them on in-person, we hope these boxes help make athletes’ loved ones cheer a little louder and feel a little closer to the Games, even from a distance.”

As Team Canada’s athletes arrive in Beijing for the 2022 Paralympic Games (March 4 – 13), their loved ones are gearing up to make some noise for their favourite athletes at home with help from the Petro-Canada cheer boxes.
