Our purpose is to provide trusted energy that enhances people’s lives, while caring for each other and the Earth. This means including Indigenous Peoples’ interests in opportunities and in addressing impacts of energy development.
With many of our sites and operations located on the traditional lands of Indigenous Peoples, we work with communities to:
- Understand and lessen environmental and community impacts.
- Build meaningful, long-term and mutually beneficial relationships.
We are committed to working with Indigenous communities to learn, grow and earn trust through open and honest conversations.
Our Canadian Aboriginal Relations Policy* is guided by these principles:

*We are changing our language from “Aboriginal” to “Indigenous” after consulting with Indigenous communities and employees. However, some references still require updating, including our Canadian Aboriginal Relations Policy and Aboriginal Awareness web-based training. Thank you for your patience as we make these changes.
Employees told us they wanted to be able to share the training with family and friends, and community organizations asked us to share it to enrich their own training opportunities.
We are offering this training to anyone, free of charge, to learn more about the history and experiences of Indigenous Peoples. Please share with your friends and family. Several groups have found it beneficial to view the training together and have a discussion afterwards. By sharing experiences we can all continue to learn from, and with, each other.
