Community Investment and Engagement
Suncor Energy (U.S.A.) Inc. invests in our local communities by addressing community issues in ways that seek solutions and benefits for all. We show up in our community through the following:
- Charitable donations: We proudly contribute to charitable organizations and initiatives that align with our community investment funding priorities.
- Sponsorship: We support non-profit and charitable activities and events that align with our community investment funding priorities and business interests through sponsorships and donations (including donations to organizations that do not have charitable status, but are conducting charitable initiatives), financial assistance, in-kind contributions, product donations, and event sponsorships.
- SunCares employee program: Our employees are passionate about giving back to the communities where they live and work, and through this program, we reward volunteer efforts with monetary donations to the employee’s organization of choice. SunCares enables our employees to log their volunteer hours and in 2019, we contributed more than 4,400 hours of volunteer time and supported 82 community organizations. We also offer a 1-to-1 match for personal donations made by employees, which in addition to corporate rewards, totaled over $66,000 USD in 2019.
Since 2012, we have invested more than $7 million in our operating communities in Colorado and Wyoming, with the majority of these dollars supporting initiatives benefiting residents in the Denver Metro area. Through our community investment efforts, we prioritize contributing to the communities where our employees live and work, and are active supporters of more than 50 local, non-profit, Commerce City and Denver-based organizations and initiatives, including the Suncor Boys & Girls Club in Commerce City, the Sand Creek Regional Greenway Partnership, and Mile High United Way.
