‘Tis the season for festive joy and cherished traditions. As many of us deck the halls and participate in holiday festivities at home with our families, it's important to remember Suncor’s dedicated employees who keep the operations running 365 days a year.

From extraction to upgrading to refining to the Petro-Canada retail and wholesale stations and everything in between, its Suncor’s operational employees reporting for duty, who ensure there’s a continuous supply of energy that helps fuel the holidays.

Jeff Plitt, a near-30-year mining employee and Operations Specialist with Mining and Tailing at Fort Hills, is no stranger to working away from home during the holiday season. "I understand the importance of keeping the sites running and have been working over the holiday season for many years. It's become the norm for my family and I, and I like to give others the opportunity of having this time off.”

The holiday season and festivities look a little different than they would at home but Jeff shares how the sites go above and beyond to infuse holiday joy into the work environment.

“At Mount Logan Lodge, they have been remarkable in making the season special. They organize a special dinner on Christmas day, creating an atmosphere that almost feels like being with family as we gather with co-workers for a heartwarming meal.” Jeff explains. “Our on-site baker, who is a seasoned pro, goes all out each year with incredible spreads, including chocolate fountains and baked delights that are simply amazing.”

This year, Chef Lasantha Mendis and his team took it up a notch by constructing a towering five-foot-tall gingerbread house, adding to the festive ambiance on-site.

To add a festive touch, Christmas trees and twinkling lights are put up safely at the sites and on equipment.

“We support each other, sharing laughs and meals that mean the world to those working through the holiday season. We create a sense of togetherness, finding comfort in one another's company as we navigate work safely, making the best of the holiday season on-site,” adds Jeff.

Thank you to the many employees across Suncor’s operations in Alberta, British Columbia, Newfoundland and Labrador, Ontario, Quebec and Colorado as well as associates at Petro-Canada retail and wholesale sites across the country. Suncor is grateful for all their hard work and wishes everyone a happy and safe holiday season.
