- Suncor’s Indigenous Youth Advisory Council (IYAC) met in Sarnia for its 2026 Annual Gathering
- A new co-pipe carrier partnership was welcomed between IYAC and Suncor
- These conversations and the relationships they help build continue to shape Suncor’s Journey of Reconciliation
This year, those conversations have taken place in many ways across Suncor’s operating areas, including at the 2026 Annual Gathering of Suncor’s Indigenous Youth Advisory Council (IYAC) in Sarnia, where members spent part of the week meeting and learning in the community of Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
IYAC is a youth-driven council that brings together 14 First Nations and Métis young leaders from across the country to share perspectives, experiences and ideas that help strengthen Suncor’s relationships with Indigenous communities. Guided by Elders and supported through cultural teachings and mentorship, members have opportunities to learn from one another while helping shape Suncor’s understanding of Indigenous perspectives.
The Annual Gathering is an opportunity to reflect on that work, and this year it took on added significance with the welcoming of a new co-pipe carrier partnership.
Kahenientha Cross, representing IYAC from Mohawk Territory in Quebec, Kahnawà:ke, and Ken Bell, VP Operations - Bitumen Supply, representing Suncor, now serve as co-pipe carriers and are responsible for upholding the relationship between IYAC and Suncor.
Throughout the week, the council participated in cultural ceremonies and teachings, toured Suncor’s Sarnia refinery and spent time with local Indigenous leaders and community members exchanging stories, teachings and perspectives.
Together, these conversations, and the relationships they help build, continue to shape Suncor’s Journey of Reconciliation.
