Travellers flying out of Montreal's international airport will soon be soaring with jet fuel supplied by Suncor’s Montreal Refinery.

The refinery began jet fuel production this November.

Adding jet fuel to the production mix is a game-changer for our Montreal Refinery and for Canada. It means a boost to our country’s domestic supply, complementing our existing output from our Edmonton and Sarnia refineries (our Commerce City Refinery also supplies jet fuel to Colorado in the U.S.).

Currently, Canada produces approximately 47 million barrels of jet fuel each year, but it still needs to import approximately 11 million barrels to meet demand, according to Statistics Canada.

“Canada often relies on imported jet fuel, so growing our domestic supply will help meet a need with a made-in-Canada solution,” says Dave Oldreive, Executive Vice President, Downstream. “This new supply of jet fuel not only supports our customers, but reinforces Suncor’s reputation as a strong, integrated business that provides safe and reliable fuel supply.”

With jet fuel demand expected to remain strong, Suncor is proud to play a pivotal role in making sure Canadian airports are kept supplied with the high-quality fuel they need to keep leisure and business travellers moving.
