Jackie Sheppard was appointed to Suncor’s Board of Directors in July 2022 and is the chair of the governance committee and a member of the human resources and compensation committee.
Ms. Sheppard has held numerous roles as an executive in the energy industry and as a director of public, private and crown corporations. She is the former Executive Vice President, Corporate & Legal, of Talisman Energy Inc. where she was responsible for legal affairs, business development, major projects, corporate communications, investor relations, corporate responsibility and government affairs.
Ms. Sheppard also sits on the boards of Emera Inc., where she served as Chair for more than 10 years, and ARC Resources Ltd. She previously served as a director of Alberta Investment Management Corporation, Pacific Northwest LNG Ltd., Seven Generations Energy Ltd. and Cairn Energy PLC. Ms. Sheppard was also a founder and lead director of Black Swan Energy Inc., an Alberta upstream energy company that was private equity financed and sold to Tourmaline Oil Corp.
Ms. Sheppard was named one of Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100 by the Women’s Executive Network and the National Post from 2002-2007. In honour of her exceptional merit and integrity in the legal profession, Ms. Sheppard was appointed the King’s Counsel designation in 2008.
Ms. Sheppard is a fellow of the Institute of Corporate Directors, Canada’s preeminent distinction for directors, a Rhodes Scholar, having received an honours jurisprudence, and earned bachelor and master of arts degrees from Oxford University. She earned a bachelor of laws degree (Honours) from McGill University and holds an honorary doctor of laws degree from Memorial University of Newfoundland.
