Jean Paul (JP) Gladu was appointed to Suncor’s Board of Directors in November 2020 and is a member of both the human resources and compensation committee and the governance committee.

Mr. Gladu is the Principal of Mokwateh and previously served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business for approximately eight years. He also serves on the board of the Institute of Corporate Directors and on BHP’s Forum on Corporate Responsibility.

Mr. Gladu has over 30 years of experience in the natural resource sector working with Indigenous communities and organizations, environmental non-government organizations, and industry and governments in Canada and internationally.

Mr. Gladu has a forestry technician diploma from Sault College, an undergraduate degree in forestry from Northern Arizona University, an executive master of business administration from Queen’s University and holds the ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors through the Rotman school of management directors education program, and was awarded an honorary doctor of laws degree from Carleton University. He is a senior fellow with the Macdonald-Laurier Institute and previously served as the Chancellor of St. Paul’s University College Waterloo (now United College). Mr. Gladu’s achievements have been recognized by the Public Policy Forum as a prestigious 2024 honouree.

Mr. Gladu lives in his community of Bingwi Neyaashi Anishinaabek First Nation, Ontario.
