The Edmonton refinery sits on 247 hectares of land in Strathcona County. The 146,000 barrel-per-day refinery produces gasoline, diesel, jet fuel and aviation gasoline, which it supplies to most of Western Canada by truck, rail and pipelines.
The feedstock for our Edmonton refinery is entirely from the oil sands, primarily from our own oil sands operations but also from Syncrude and other producers from the Wood Buffalo and Cold Lake regions of northern Alberta.
We have more than 50 storage tanks ranging in sizes, and each can hold from 160,000 to more than 230,000 barrels of fuels. In these tanks, incoming crude oil is held until it can be processed into finished products. Other tanks hold finished products awaiting shipment to customers and terminals across western Canada.
More than 540 employees and numerous contractors work at the refinery and are involved in the community where they live and work.
Emergency preparedness
It’s important for us to share information about the operations and activities of our Edmonton refinery with our neighbours.
