Shelley Powell is Executive Vice President, Development and Projects, responsible for the execution of projects including Suncor’s in situ growth plan.
Ms. Powell began her career at Suncor’s Sarnia Refinery in 1995 as a process operator. Since then, she has held progressively more senior and complex roles in operations, maintenance, reliability and process engineering.
Her previous senior leadership roles include Senior Vice President, Operational Improvement & Support Services, responsible for corporate environmental, health & safety, supply chain, operational risk management, technical & operations support, major capital projects; Senior Vice President, In Situ and Exploration & Production; Senior Vice President, Base Plant; Vice President, Extraction; Vice President, Operational Excellence and Technical Services; and Vice President, Commerce City Refinery where she oversaw all of Suncor’s U.S. activities.
Ms. Powell holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Ottawa and two master’s degrees, one in business administration and a master of science degree in finance, both from the University of Michigan.
