Community investment in Edmonton

Suncor’s Edmonton refinery, located in Strathcona County, has been part of the region since the early 1950s with 2026 marking 75 years of operation. Today, hundreds of employees and their families live across the region.

Through local partnerships, we support initiatives that strengthen health and safety, expand education and workforce development opportunities and help build strong, connected communities.

Community and culture

Suncor is proud to support the Strathcona Food Bank’s new Nourish Centre, an 18,000 square foot, purpose built facility designed to respond to growing community need.

A $200,000 contribution helped break ground on the centre, which will expand access to food through a grocery style model that offers dignity, choice and culturally appropriate options. The new space will include expanded storage, walk-in freezers, a community kitchen and gathering areas, helping strengthen local food security and support families across Strathcona County.

Health and safety

Suncor invested $1.5 million through the University Hospital Foundation to strengthen access to advanced medical imaging in Edmonton.

The donation helped bring a photon counting CT scanner to University Hospital, delivering sharper images, faster scans and greater diagnostic precision to support earlier detection and confident treatment planning.

Suncor contributed $100,000 to Sorrentino’s Compassion House, a home away from home for women travelling to Edmonton for cancer treatment. The house provides comfortable, supportive accommodation for women and their caregivers, welcoming more than 365 individuals from 82 communities across Alberta and the Northwest Territories each year.

The support helps ease the emotional and financial burden of treatment and allows patients to focus on healing.

Education and workforce development

Through our support of International Women’s Day, Suncor was proud to support Women Building Futures (WBF), an organization that helps women build rewarding careers in industries where they have traditionally been underrepresented.

Through skills training, career readiness support, mentorship and employer connections, WBF empowers women to access meaningful, well-paying careers while helping create a more diverse and inclusive workforce.
